Wisconsin Restaurateurs Go to Washington
Wisconsin was well represented at the NRA Public Affairs Conference in Washington D.C.

A delegation of 22 Wisconsin Restaurant Association members and staff made the trip to Washington D.C. for the National Restaurant Association’s annual Public Affairs Conference April 12-13.

Members were briefed on the issues by NRA government relations staff before meeting with the U.S. representatives and senators from Wisconsin.

Members from Wisconsin met personally with Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, Rep. James Sensenbrenner, Rep. Glenn Grothman, Rep. Reid Ribble and Sen. Ron Johnson. Staff representing Rep. Mark Pocan, Rep. Ron Kind, Rep Sean Duffy, Rep. Gwen Moore and Sen. Tammy Baldwin also met with Wisconsin delegates.

The three key issues addressed were:

  • Overtime rule changes
  • Tax reform
  • Joint employer ruling by the NLRB

Our Wisconsin delegation was fortunate to have the opportunity to visit the impressive Office of the Speaker and have a photo op with Speaker Paul Ryan.

The Wisconsin delegation was also treated to a presentation on the 2016 presidential campaign by Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, from MSNBC’s Morning Joe.

WRA Member Delegates included:

  • Chico Pope, Dawn Pope and Kevin Pope, the Buckhorn Supper Club
  • Dave Flannery and Vicki Flannery, Apple Holler
  • Susie Patterson and Katrina Patterson, Al & Al's Stein Haus
  • Mark Landreman and Jean Landreman, Landreman's Family Restaurant
  • Trey Hester, Rocky Rococo Restaurants
  • Thom Kraak, Amy Kraak and Kathy Hendricksen, Brussels Countryside Diner
  • Denise Harris, Wisconsin Hospitality Group
  • Conroy Soik and Mary Soik, Eatmore, Inc. dba Culver’s
  • Karen Vlach, Culver Franchising System
  • Susan Lump
  • Nicolett Nannetti
  • Wisconsin Restaurant Association staff: Pete Hanson, Susan Quam and Ed Lump

It is so important for restaurant industry professionals to take the time to meet with elected officials in Washington to help them understand what it takes to run a restaurant business today. The Public Affairs Conference is a unique opportunity to see our government at work – up close and personal. it’s an opportunity that few get to experience.
